Taking a Break From News

newsI don’t watch the news at night
Unless I want to get depressed
Murder and mayhem at bedtime
Interfere with peaceful rest

Except for sports and weather
I don’t think I miss too much
And if war breaks out somewhere
NPR will keep in touch

But waking up to more bad news
Is more than I can handle
Instead of crime and accidents
I get politics and scandal

Newspapers, online, cable,
Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook
Smart phones, iPhones, or tablets
In fact, everywhere I look

So, here is my solution:
To eliminate all troubling news
Don’t watch, don’t listen, don’t read
Ignore talking heads and biased views

It’s a rough, tough world out there
I don’t need confirmation
What I do need is a break from
all that toxic information
